An apparently orphaned boy is taken in and raised by a Chinese gentleman named Po Chang. The boy, named Frank Garlund, and whose ancestry remains a mystery, becomes, by age thirty, a financial wizard, a youthful tycoon, who is also a key figure in worldwide business affairs In flashback sequences, events in the lives of the people who had come into contact with Garlund in his struggle to reach the top are dramatized.
