Queen Won Kyung, born to Min Je during the Goryeo period, came from a prestigious family of high-ranking officials. Married to Lee Bang Won, son of King Taejo, she supported her husband's ambitions to become King Taejong after his father bypassed him for the throne. However, their relationship soured after Lee Bang Won became king, took concubines, and sought to curb Queen Won Kyung's influence and that of her family.
