Humanity could not exist without constant progress, the discovery and implementation of new technologies, inventions, and discoveries. What is a discovery? A discovery is always something new, something that didn't exist before, and something that will revolutionize our familiar way of life. It can be the result of lengthy scientific research, or it can come suddenly—as bright as a solar flare. After all, if Nikola Tesla, as a child, watching lightning during a thunderstorm, had believed his parents' explanation that it was a manifestation of God's wrath, we would hardly be using electricity today. And if Albert Einstein hadn't turned the scientific world upside down with his theory, it's unclear what modern physics would be like. What about the theory of evolution? The discovery of atoms? And the countless truly brilliant discoveries made by great scientists of past centuries? Without all of this, the world we are accustomed to would look completely different. And yet, which particular great scientific discoveries played a decisive role?
